Multi-select with include/exclude on merchant filter (or a dedicated onboarding flow)

The broader use case for bulk edits right now is onboarding: as a new user, I want to categorize transactions from the past couple of years so I can get initial year-over-year trends. That's a lot of transactions to wade through.

One thing that would help: make the merchant filter a multi-select with include/exclude. As I bulk-edit a merchant, I can add it to the excludes list so further transactions from that merchant disappear from the queue.

Alternative: a more dedicated onboarding flow for this scenario.

    Hi, we have shipped support for multi-select merchant filters and multi-select tag filters. Please take a look and share feedback.

    Planned Enhancements to this feature:

    1. Preserve the applied filters across refresh so that the exact purpose of going through all historical transactions can be better resolved.

    2. Add support for “OR” and “AND” modes in tag multi-select filters.

      1. “OR” mode (current default) → filter txns that contain any of the tags from the multi select list.

      2. “AND: mode (to be added) → filter txns that contain all of the tags from the multi select list.

    3. Bug: Multi select with “No merchant” is an edge case and shows an empty list. WIP to fix this edge case.

    Thanks for all your hard work on this; overall it’s working great for what it does, but did the exclude filter make it into this cut, or will that come later? Per “I can add it to the excludes list so further transactions from that merchant disappear from the queue”, I want to start with all merchants selected and then remove merchants as I review a canonical transaction from them (to assess whether the category tag is correct).

    In other applications, I’ve seen this done with a <Include | Exclude> button-style radio button at the top, which changes whether the selected options are included or excluded. A “select all” that checked all of the check boxes and then let the user uncheck them would probably also work fine. Just offering some ideas :)

    Multi-select merchant filter with include/exclude is actively in progress. Found a minor complication so it's taking a few more days, but should land soon.
